Newcastle United have started replacing old crests around St James' Park, including at the club's senior base, media centre, and Academy and women's training headquarters. The Magpies unveiled a new club crest for the first time since 1988 last week, and new signage has also appeared on Barrack Road.
Updated venue logos
Chronicle Live understands that the new sign now visible on the walls on Barrack Road, on the walk-up to the Milburn Stand, is an updated version of the St James' Park venue logos. The design is inspired by the cantilevered glass roof at the stadium, built between 1999 and 2000, and celebrates the unique stadium architecture.
The previous design had been in use around the stadium for the last 10 years. The new signs are a refresh to accompany other new branding, including at the media centre where the old crest has been replaced by a sign reading The KNOX, promoting the club's training ground and shirt sponsors.
Other changes around the stadium
Around St James' Park, the masts on lampposts used by the club and the city council have also been updated. Images of Nick Woltemade have been removed and replaced with new ones featuring Malick Thiaw and Harvey Barnes.
In a statement last week, the club said: "Our new crest is the culmination of more than two years of comprehensive consultation, including supporter events, focus groups, workshops and surveys."
"We've consulted leading industry experts on the challenges presented by our existing crest and how we can evolve in line our world-class ambitions. And we've taken our research out to thousands of fans around the world to discuss and scrutinise it, and to listen to feedback."
New crest rollout
The statement continued: "Now, after creating a shortlist of three new crest options and commissioning an independent poll completed by more than 27,000 supporters, our new crest has emerged as a clear winner with two-thirds selecting it as their first choice."
"The new crest will be used from today and will be put in place progressively across physical signage and digital and broadcast platforms over the coming months. It will be in place on our kits for the 2027/28 season, and we'll bring supporters news very soon on exciting new retail options."
