Arsenal have agreed a £75 million fee with Newcastle for Bruno Guimaraes, but the Magpies will not receive the full amount due to a transfer clause inserted in the original deal.
Lyon's sell-on clause
Lyon, who sold Guimaraes to Newcastle in 2022 for £38 million, are entitled to 20 per cent of the profit from any future sale. This amounts to around £7.4 million, reducing Newcastle's recouped fee to £67.6 million.
That leaves Newcastle with just under £20 million profit on their initial outlay for the Brazilian midfielder.
Guimaraes' desire to move
Guimaraes has been keen to leave Newcastle for Arsenal for several weeks, with news of a possible deal emerging during the 2026 World Cup. He returned to pre-season with Newcastle on Monday, where he informed new manager Matthias Jaissle of his wish to complete the move. Jaissle is set to be confirmed as Eddie Howe's replacement.
Newcastle's transfer window struggles
It has been a difficult transfer window for Newcastle so far. They have sold winger Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for €80 million and midfielder Sandro Tonali to Tottenham in a deal worth £100 million. Incomings have proven challenging, with deals for Johan Manzambi and Victor Munoz being hijacked by Aston Villa and Liverpool respectively.
