Emily Atack and Alistair Garner marry in first of two weddings

Emily Atack and Alistair Garner have married for the first time in an intimate UK ceremony, with plans for a second wedding abroad next month. The 36-year-old TV star and 40-year-old scientist exchanged vows on Saturday, 22 August 2026, surrounded by family and friends.

A Childhood Connection

Emily, known for roles in The Inbetweeners and Rivals, and Alistair have known each other since childhood. Their romantic relationship began in 2022, after reconnecting as adults. Alistair's late father was married to Emily's aunt on her mother's side, but the couple are not related, as Emily clarified in 2024.

Alistair studied Astrophysics and Computer Science at Keele University, later continuing at Manchester University and Sheffield. His LinkedIn profile describes him as a "materials scientist and electron microscopist specialising in the degradation of high performance alloys for nuclear and aerospace applications."

The Wedding Day

On Sunday, 23 August 2026, Emily shared photos on social media of the couple leaving a church as guests threw confetti. Emily wore a white dress with a dramatic veil, while Alistair wore a black suit and tan shoes. The pair posed beside a vintage car and kissed for the camera.

In an accompanying caption, Emily wrote: "Yesterday we officially got married among close family and friends. It was absolutely perfect. I can’t believe we get to do all that again in a few weeks time. Christ, we have fun don’t we." Reports suggest the second wedding will take place in Spain in September. Photos from the day also showed a McDonald's ice cream van hired for guests.

Family Life

In 2024, Emily and Alistair welcomed their first child, a son named Barney. Speaking to The Times about motherhood, Emily said: "I feel like my whole life had been building up to that moment, not just getting a part in that show but also my personal life. It feels like the stars have aligned. That is genuinely how it feels."

She added: "I used to pray to God that I would end up with somebody who made me feel safe, and I’m safe with Al now." Reflecting on past relationships, she said: "It was never going to be a pop star or a film star. It was never going to be that. I’ve done all that. I needed security, a solid, stoical person. And I just love how safe I feel. I am completely at peace. I don’t think I ever experienced proper love before because this is it."

Emily concluded: "I know Al will look after me and Barney. I know he will be the best father and the best husband eventually. I am happier than I ever thought I could be."
