Boos rang around St James' Park at full-time as Newcastle United were beaten 1-0 at home to Aston Villa. The Magpies failed to bounce back from the 4-1 loss to Coventry on Monday night.
Manzambi's Decisive Header
Villa midfielder Johan Manzambi scored the only goal of the game on the 36th minute. Manzambi, who almost joined Newcastle in the summer, headed past Hornicek, who got a hand to it, unchallenged.
Late Push Falls Short
Harvey Barnes cut the ball back to Yoane Wissa in the 79th minute in an attempt to even the scoresheet. However the forward's connection on the shot wasn't clean and he skewed his effort well wide of goal. The Magpies threw everything at it in stoppage time, with Dan Burn being brought on to cause carnage up front. However they failed to put the ball in the back of the net.
