Netflix has confirmed a third season of Running Point is in the works, and fans couldn't be more thrilled. Having premiered to huge success in 2025, a second outing was fast-tracked into production and released just over a year later this April. The new 10-part season scored an impressive 6.7 million views in its opening week.
Described as one of the best comedies released on the streaming platform in recent years, the sports sitcom follows Kate Hudson as Isla Gordon, the pioneering female president of the fictional NBA team the Los Angeles Waves. After being forced to step up when her brother Cam (played by Justin Theroux) heads to rehab, season two saw Isla jumping over even more hurdles, including more player drama, a new coach, and the breakdown of her upcoming marriage.
Plus, the follow-up ended with not one but two dramatic cliffhangers that perfectly set up even higher stakes in the third instalment. Despite securing a championship title for the Waves, Isla faces her greatest challenge yet after Cam buys a rival LA team and recruits Jay Brown (Jay Ellis), Isla's on-off love interest, as his coach. Meanwhile, the Waves' star player Marcus Winfield (Toby Sandeman) suffers a painful injury that could stop his career on the court dead in its tracks.
With strong viewership and ranking in Netflix's top 10 over the past few weeks, the streamer has wasted no time in greenlighting Running Point season three, as confirmed by Deadline. Co-creator and showrunner David Stassen has given fans a brief teaser for what's to come. 'More family fights, more antagonism, more double crossing, more basketball,' he told the Hollywood Reporter. 'And maybe Isla walking into some glass doors again.'
He also previewed in Gold Derby: 'I'm hoping that people think, "Oh my god, what does this mean for Isla and for the Waves' grip on the city of L.A.?" They're the world champs. They own the town. But now a team across the city with more money and a big, splashy grand opening is coming, and they're going to try and steal their lunch money, steal their fans, steal their players, steal their advertisers, steal their season-ticket holders. There's going to be a lot of challenges for Isla and the family as Cam tries to take a foothold in the city of L.A.'
For subscribers who haven't checked it out yet, it's perfect for fans of Apple TV's rival sports sitcom Ted Lasso, or Netflix's hit romantic comedy series Nobody Wants This. Other main cast members in the series include Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Brenda Song, Fabrizio Guido, Chet Hanks, and Uche Agada, all of whom are expected to return. Running Point is available to stream on Netflix.
