Police in Oklahoma are investigating a reported burglary at the home of Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, which occurred while the NBA’s reigning MVP was playing a game on Thursday evening. The Thunder referred inquiries to Nichols Hills police, an enclave north of downtown Oklahoma City, who would not confirm the owner or specify what had been taken.
Officers responded to a burglary report at the residence around 7.45pm local time, during the Thunder’s home match against the Washington Wizards. Local news stations showed police at the scene. “The suspects fled the area prior to police arrival,” the police said in a statement. “While no arrests have been made, there is no reason to believe the public is in any danger.”
The break-in reflects a recent surge in burglaries at the homes of high-profile professional athletes across the United States, with thieves targeting properties believed to contain expensive goods. Victims have included NFL stars Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Joe Burrow, NBA player Luka Dončić, and NHL player Evgeni Malkin.
Law enforcement officials have warned sports leagues that thieves often strike on game days when players are absent, frequently gaining entry by smashing rear windows. In November 2024, the NBA sent a memo to teams urging heightened home security, recommending that players install updated alarm systems with cameras, secure valuables in safes, remove interior photos from online property listings, hire protective guard services for extended trips, and even use guard dogs.
