Alan Hutton, Luka Modric's former Tottenham Hotspur team-mate, believes the Croatian could still "run games" for Swansea City at the age of 41.
Hutton played alongside Modric for three years at Tottenham and says the World Cup finalist retains the ability to make an impact as a player, despite his advancing years. However, he admits a move to south Wales looks unlikely.
Investor role at Swansea
Modric became a minority investor in the Swans in April last year, in a move that made him the first of several celebrity investors. Rapper Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart are among the others to have come on board since his involvement was confirmed.
The former Real Madrid star, currently on the books at AC Milan, is yet to visit the Swansea.com Stadium. Hutton believes his involvement will be a huge benefit to the Welsh side, even suggesting he could play a key role under head coach Vitor Matos.
Hutton's verdict on Modric
"Luka Modric probably could run games for Swansea at 41," Hutton told FootballPredictions.com. "I still remember him when he first came to Tottenham for about sixteen million and it took him a little time to kind of bed in and things, but when he got going, I've never seen a player like it."
"So comfortable, so cultured, outside of the right foot, left foot, he could do everything. And to still be playing, with everything that he's done in his career to this point, to still want to be involved is quite incredible."
Playing move unlikely
While Hutton thinks the ageless Croatian has the ability to pull the strings in a Swans midfield, he does not see him pulling on a Swans shirt any time soon. Even so, he hopes the veteran will be given the chance to have an input on footballing decisions at the club.
"Do I think he'll go and play with Swansea? No, I don't. That's my honest opinion. But to be invested in a football club, I hope that he would have a say in it because he's got so much to give in terms of his knowledge and what he's done in the past. So it's brilliant to see."
