Lionel Messi scored a stoppage-time winner as Inter Miami came from behind to beat Nashville SC 2-1 at GEODIS Park, extending their lead at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference.

Comeback victory

Nashville took the lead through Dejan Joveljic in the 34th minute, but Inter Miami equalised before half-time through a goal from Federico Redondo. The match looked to be heading for a draw until Messi struck in the 92nd minute to secure all three points.

The win moves Inter Miami seven points clear of second-placed FC Cincinnati in the Eastern Conference standings.

Messi's impact

Messi's goal was his 15th of the MLS season, and it continued his remarkable scoring form since joining the club. The Argentine forward has now been directly involved in 25 goals in his last 18 appearances for Inter Miami.

Nashville, meanwhile, remain in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, having now lost three of their last four matches.
