Rory McIlroy resumed his preparation for the US PGA Championship on Wednesday morning, despite ongoing issues with a blister on his right foot. The 37-year-old Northern Irishman cut short his practice round on Tuesday after a few holes, at one point removing his shoe to tend to the problem.
McIlroy revealed last week that he was battling a blister on the little toe of his right foot, and reportedly ripped the nail off earlier this week. He was visibly struggling during Tuesday's practice but appeared in better spirits on Wednesday, taking to the putting green just after 9am local time before heading to the practice range.
He then began his practice round on the 10th hole alongside former champion Padraig Harrington, Ryder Cup teammate Shane Lowry, and Spaniard Angel Ayora. McIlroy seemed to be moving fine, having been limping on Tuesday, and later told reporters that the toe “is totally fine”.
McIlroy is bidding to win back-to-back majors at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania. He is due to begin his quest for a seventh major title alongside Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth at 8.40am on Thursday (1.40pm BST).
