The Dallas Mavericks have traded forward Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards in an eight-player deal, ESPN reported on Wednesday.
The Mavericks will receive Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham and Marvin Bagley III, along with two first-round and three second-round draft picks. In addition to Davis, Washington will acquire Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum.
Davis, a 10-time All-Star, has been sidelined since 8 January with a hand injury. He played 20 games for Dallas this season, averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 blocks. He arrived at the Mavericks in the February 2025 trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Over his 29 appearances with Dallas, all starts, the team compiled a 16-13 record, with Davis averaging 20.2 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists. The Mavericks, who are 19-31 and on a five-game losing streak, sit 12th in the Western Conference.
The Wizards, 13-36, are in the early stages of a rebuild. Davis is the second established star to join the franchise this winter after Trae Young was acquired from the Atlanta Hawks on 9 January; Young has yet to debut for Washington because of medial collateral ligament and quad injuries.
Middleton, a three-time All-Star and 2021 NBA champion with the Milwaukee Bucks, is the most prominent player heading to Dallas. The 34-year-old averaged 10.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 34 games for the Wizards this season, while Bagley and Russell each average around 10 points per game.
