Former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has reportedly been offered the chance to sign for Everton.
The Toffees were in the market to sign a new No.9 on deadline day after allowing Beto to join Fiorentina, and had identified Monaco's Folarin Balogun as their first-choice target. A deal had been agreed for the United States international to move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but the player rejected the opportunity at the 11th hour.
Everton's striker shortage
It has left David Moyes' side with just Thierno Barry as their only recognised senior striker after the summer transfer window closed on Tuesday. But the Toffees can still sign free agents with ex-United front man Martial emerging a potential option after leaving Mexican club Monterrey in June.
According to TEAMtalk, Martial has been offered as an addition to Everton's threadbare forward options. It has been suggested that intermediaries have contacted several clubs in England citing the Frenchman's openness to returning to the Premier League, with Everton, Leeds, Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Sunderland and Spurs are all said to have been sounded out.
Martial's career since leaving United
Martial, 30, scored 63 goals and contributed with 33 assists in 209 Premier League appearances during nine years at Old Trafford. But he left in 2024 at the end of his contract after struggling for form and game time.
The former Lyon man then spent some time at Greek outfit AEK Athens before moving to Monterrey in September 2025 on a two-year deal with the option of a further 12 months. But his time at Monterrey was disrupted by a dislocated shoulder suffered in February. He was forced to be stretchered off in severe pain during a 1-0 win against Club Leon in Liga Mx.
His final appearance for Monterrey, known as one of the biggest clubs in North America, came on March 18 against Cruz Azul in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, where he played 60 minutes before being substituted. The ex-Sevilla man was then left out of the Monterrey squad for their remaining five matches of the season - and a decision was made for him to be released at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
Other free agents available
Martial is one of several high-profile free agents available for transfer. His former United team-mate Jadon Sancho is still without a club after quitting the Reds earlier this summer, while Yves Bissouma, Riyad Mahrez, Karim Benzema and Wilfried Zaha are among the others not contracted to a team.
