Maresca presser: City boss faces Donnarumma questions before Forest trip
Maresca faces Donnarumma questions before Forest trip

Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca is set to face the media at 10.30am today ahead of Saturday's Premier League trip to Nottingham Forest, with questions over goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma's form and the title race expected to dominate the agenda.

City returned to winning ways on Wednesday night with a 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League, a result that moved them into the top eight of the League Phase table. However, Donnarumma was once again criticised after failing to cover his near post for the Bundesliga club's opener.

Donnarumma under scrutiny

Maresca has previously insisted he is not concerned by Donnarumma's form, but he could face more questions on his goalkeeper, particularly with Geronimo Rulli waiting in the wings. The Italian shot-stopper has suffered a tough start to the season and showed his best and worst qualities in Leipzig, with another mistake only putting the focus back on him.

City again struggled defensively in midweek, but showed character to respond and grind out the win. Erling Haaland was the matchwinner after the home side had twice pegged City back.

Haaland demands more

Following the Champions League victory, Haaland urged Manchester City to 'step up' if they are to battle for trophies this season. Despite the win, the striker wants to see more from the side.

The Premier League title race may also be up for discussion this morning. City sit three points behind Arsenal after last weekend's results, and by the time they kick off tomorrow they could sit six points behind the Gunners, piling the pressure on Maresca's men.

City will be in better spirits going into the game after winning in midweek, a gutsy performance that could have been more comfortable had it not been for Donnarumma's error. Maresca will likely have to defend his number one again today as he addresses the media at the Etihad Campus.
