Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has expressed his hope that Harry Maguire will sign a new contract at the club, revealing that the sentiment is shared by the rest of the dressing room. Maguire, who joined United from Leicester City for £80 million in 2019, has been a key figure at Old Trafford, captaining the side and playing under seven different managers.
The 33-year-old is now in the final three months of his contract, with negotiations reportedly underway for a two-year extension involving a wage reduction. Yoro, who has partnered Maguire in defence in recent matches, spoke after United's 3-1 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, saying: 'Having Harry in the team is good for us. I hope he's going to extend his contract and he can stay with us.'
Yoro highlighted Maguire's influence on and off the pitch, noting: 'With all the experiences he has, he spoke to me a lot on the pitch and gave a lot of tips. That is helping me a lot. Playing with him is really good for me.' A source told The Sun in February that the majority of players want the club to offer Maguire a new deal, describing him as 'very well-respected in the dressing room'.
Manager Michael Carrick, who has won seven of his first nine games in charge, also praised Maguire's character and experience. 'Harry's an impressive character. He's had a great career so far. Hopefully there's a lot more to come,' Carrick said, hinting at a potential contract extension.
