André Onana to complete Trabzonspor loan from Manchester United after medical

Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana is set to join Turkish club Trabzonspor on a season-long loan, with a medical scheduled for Thursday. The move comes after United signed Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day, giving manager Ruben Amorim four keepers including Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton.

Onana, 29, initially believed he would stay at United but changed his stance after Trabzonspor's interest. He is expected to earn more in Turkey, benefiting from a signing-on fee and a flat 20% tax rate in the Super Lig. The Cameroon international, who has charity commitments through his André Onana Foundation, is keen to maximise his earnings.

Onana's current United deal, worth around £100,000 a week, runs until June 2028. He was told in the summer he would stay, but discussions indicated a new contract might not be forthcoming. United are not in the Champions League this season, meaning squad members miss out on a 25% salary increase tied to that competition.

Club sources said they were comfortable having four goalkeepers, noting Onana's potential absence for up to six weeks during the Africa Cup of Nations, which starts on 21 December. Onana has lost his place to Bayindir this season and started only the Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby, where he was at fault for both goals in a 2-2 draw.
