Manchester United Agree £39m Deal for Atalanta Midfielder Ederson

Manchester United have reached a club-to-club agreement with Atalanta for midfielder Ederson, who is set to become the first signing of the Michael Carrick era. The deal is worth an initial €40.5 million (£35m) plus €4.5 million (£4m) in add-ons, totalling £39m.

The 26-year-old Brazilian is expected to sign a four-year contract with an option for a further 12 months after completing a medical, with the transfer likely to be finalised by early July. Ederson has been a long-term target for United and will bolster a midfield that lost Casemiro earlier this year.

Carrick, who took over as interim manager and won 11 of 16 games to secure the role permanently, is overseeing a rebuild of the midfield. United are expected to add more midfielders this summer, with Mateus Fernandes, Carlos Baleba, and Sandro Tonali also on their radar.

Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest is another player admired by United, though Manchester City are favourites to sign him for a fee that could exceed £100m. The club's transfer activity is set to continue as they aim to strengthen ahead of the new season.
