Manchester United Under-21s' National League Cup tie at Tamworth was abandoned on Wednesday night following a serious injury to midfielder Sékou Koné. The 19-year-old Mali youth international suffered a clash of heads while defending a corner at the Lamb Ground, prompting a 15-minute stoppage for treatment.
After the half-time whistle had been blown, Koné was carried off on a stretcher with a mask placed on his face. A replacement ambulance was reportedly needed, and the delay ultimately forced the fixture to be called off with the score at 0-0.
United later issued a statement confirming that Koné was conscious, stable and communicating with the club's medical team. He was taken to hospital as a precaution for further checks. Tamworth FC also released a statement on X, expressing best wishes for a speedy recovery and thanking the travelling supporters for their understanding.
