Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Carlos Baleba's situation at Brighton, with the 21-year-old midfielder said to have held private talks with Seagulls boss Fabian Hurzeler. The Red Devils showed interest in the Cameroon international during the summer transfer window, but Brighton's £100 million valuation proved prohibitive.
Baleba, who scored three Premier League goals in 34 appearances last season, has been substituted at half-time on three occasions this term, fuelling speculation that he is unsettled. Despite reaffirming his commitment to Hurzeler and Brighton, United are keeping a close eye on developments, according to The Sun.
The ongoing midfield issues under manager Ruben Amorim may prompt United to re-enter negotiations in January. The club opted to spend over £200 million on attacking reinforcements in the summer, leaving some pundits questioning the lack of midfield investment. Casemiro, now 33, has shown signs of decline, while Bruno Fernandes is more comfortable in an advanced role.
United are also reportedly considering VfB Stuttgart's Angelo Stiller as a more affordable alternative. The 24-year-old German international has impressed in the Bundesliga, with Stuttgart demanding a minimum of £43 million, according to Sky Sports Germany.
United will have the chance to assess Baleba up close this weekend when they host Brighton at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are on a two-match winning streak, sitting ninth in the Premier League, one point above their opponents. Brighton are unbeaten in their last four league outings.
