Man Utd player ratings vs Leeds: Tielemans impresses but Fernandes struggles
Man Utd ratings vs Leeds: Tielemans good, Fernandes struggles

Manchester United's winless run now stretches to six games, but Michael Carrick will take encouragement from the quality of the performance after a 1-1 draw with Leeds at Elland Road.

Bryan Mbeumo had given Carrick's side a first-half lead, only for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to level after the break. Although it's now two wins from 10 this season, United gave their beleaguered head coach a performance in West Yorkshire.

Match action

United took their time to grow into the contest from an attacking point of view, and again the chances fell to Mbeumo. After putting a header wide, he made no mistake when converting Youri Tielemans' low cross.

It took Leeds just six second-half minutes to equalise, with Calvert-Lewin finding space from a corner to lash home a loose ball after Tarik Muharemovic had won the first header.

Player ratings

This is how the United players rated at Elland Road:

  • Senne Lammens: Good first-half save from Elvedi's header. Noticeable that he went long with every kick, when previously under Carrick United had tried to play out from the back. 6
  • Leny Yoro: Handled Okafor well and had a solid game. Strong in a few early challenges and proved up to the task. Having a good spell at the moment. 7
  • Harry Maguire: Bullied Calvert-Lewin at one point late in the first half, and this position in the middle of a back three does suit his style. Did the defensive stuff well. 7
  • Lisandro Martinez: Went down early in the first half but saw out the first 45 minutes before being replaced. Responded to the furore surrounding him this week with a committed display. 6
  • Amad: Back in a right-wing back position he probably thought he had left behind. Soon settled in and combined well with Tielemans for Mbeumo's goal. Kept his width and switch of play often on. 6
  • Andrey Santos: Desire to get on the ball and just keep it moving with simple passes is a trait United need at the moment. Unflashy, but that is what you often need in that position. 7
  • Carlos Baleba: Steamed into one early 50-50 and has the bite and energy to thrive in this midfield, but lost Calvert-Lewin for Leeds' equaliser and took a while to recover his poise. 6
  • Diogo Dalot: Is not and should never really be a wing-back, but deserves some credit for the way he played here. Read the game well, strong in the tackle and got forward when he could. 7
  • Bruno Fernandes: Picked up an early yellow card for a lunge on Muharemovic after taking a heavy touch and showed his frustration with a barrage of abuse at referee Darren England. 5
  • Youri Tielemans: His best week as a United player. Looks better with two physical midfielders behind him and was a creative threat on the ball. 7
  • Bryan Mbeumo: Sent a free header wide after 27 minutes and looked like being another of those days, but buried a chance soon after. 6

Substitutes

  • Noussair Mazraoui: Needless concession of a corner from which Leeds equalised and struggled against Calvert-Lewin's physicality. 5
  • Mason Mount: Solid when coming on for Baleba. 6
  • Matheus Cunha: Late sub. 6

Subs not used: Darlow, De Ligt, Amass, Lacey, Rashford, Zirkzee.
