Manchester United manager Michael Carrick believes his squad is stronger after the summer transfer window, but has not ruled out further additions before Tuesday's deadline.
Summer spending and potential exits
United have signed goalkeeper Karl Darlow and midfielders Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba for a total outlay of £155m. However, the club could still add a left-back and may need to replace Joshua Zirkzee, who is expected to leave before the window closes.
The Dutch forward was an unused substitute against Ipswich, with Fiorentina leading the race to sign him on loan.
Left-back concerns and Carrick's view
Carrick has a versatile attack, strengthened by the return of Marcus Rashford, but the squad looks short at left-back. United have ended their pursuit of Lewis Hall from Newcastle and could seek a short-term solution before the 11pm deadline. Noussair Mazraoui replaced Luke Shaw against Ipswich, but he is a right-back by trade and serves as back-up for Diogo Dalot.
Asked if he expected to add to his squad, Carrick said: "It's always difficult to say, to be honest, when there's so little time left.
"I think the situation that we're in, I think the business that we've managed to do, I'm pleased with. I think we're a better group, a better squad, potentially a better team.
"Adding Marcus into that feels like a new signing. So, in that respect, we're quite happy. We're always open to if there's something else to be able to add, so I wouldn't shut that down, but as it stands, we'll have to wait and see."
