Manchester United's injury woes have intensified ahead of crucial Premier League matches against Newcastle and Aston Villa. Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire both limped off during Sunday's 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, joining Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt on the sidelines.
Shaw lasted only 24 minutes before being replaced by Noussair Mazraoui after a clash with Daniel Munoz. Interim manager Michael Carrick confirmed the full-back was not feeling well, saying: 'He just wasn’t feeling too well so hopefully he will be feeling better soon.'
Harry Maguire, who played 85 minutes, was also withdrawn. Carrick revealed the defender was not fully fit. 'He just wasn’t feeling too well,' Carrick said, adding that he would provide a further update before Wednesday's trip to Newcastle.
Mason Mount remains unavailable after picking up an injury in training. Carrick said the midfielder is 'getting closer' and has returned to first-team training, but urged patience for his return.
Lisandro Martinez will miss the Newcastle game due to a calf injury sustained earlier this month. Carrick confirmed he would not travel. Matthijs de Ligt has been out since November with a lower back injury and is still not close to a return, with Carrick stating: 'It’s a difficult one to pin down a timeline.'
