Manchester United could be without as many as seven players for their Champions League trip to Como. The Red Devils travel to Italy on Wednesday in the league phase as they look to end a six-match winless run after a 1-1 draw at Leeds United.
Lisandro Martinez, who criticised the club's hierarchy last week, was substituted at half time at Elland Road. Manager Michael Carrick confirmed the Argentine was suffering with a thigh problem.
Carrick's injury update
Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo and Ayden Heaven were all missing in Yorkshire, while Marcus Rashford has been dropped to the bench in recent games. Ahead of the Como clash, Carrick issued an update on the quintet.
"A bit of a mixed bag, we've got quite a few missing," he admitted. "[Martinez] is not that bad, but he is not with us. Kobbie, we're looking at another 10 days or so, and Luke a little bit longer than that. We have a bit of illness and injuries. Ayden is ill. Marcus is still feeling a hip issue that we're trying to overcome."
Left-back options and Amass chance
Debate has raged on about who could line up at left-back, with Shaw and back-up option Patrick Dorgu also sidelined with a hamstring problem. Harry Amass, the academy graduate, has travelled with the first-team squad.
"Yeah, for sure [he could feature]," Carrick said of the youngster. "That is why he's with us, he's right in contention. At some point players need an opportunity."
Sesko still out
Benjamin Sesko remains out with a niggling shin issue that has persisted since the end of last season. "We're hoping soon that we have a clear picture," Carrick said about the Slovenian. "I'm not trying to delay it, hopefully by the end of the week we will have something clearer. There has been some work going on."
