Manchester United could face a challenge to keep Bruno Fernandes, as Turkish Super Lig side Galatasaray are reportedly preparing an offer for the United captain. According to The Telegraph, the Turkish champions are readying a €50m bid to test United's resolve, and are willing to double Fernandes' wages to bring him to the Super Lig, offering the playmaker €20m (£17.1m) a year, as reported by The Athletic.
Contract situation and release clause
Fernandes, 31, has one year left on his deal at Old Trafford. It was previously revealed that, until recently, he had a release clause in his contract of around €65m, but that clause has since expired. Despite this, Galatasaray are still keen, and their interest includes a significant wage increase for the Portugal international.
United's response and other interest
The Press Association reports that United will reject any bids for their No8 before the transfer deadline. Fabrizio Romano reports that United offered their skipper a new contract back in May, but nothing has been agreed or announced yet. It is also thought that other clubs on the continent have voiced an interest in Fernandes' services.
Fernandes broke the Premier League record for the most assists in a single season last term, with 21, as United finished third under Michael Carrick, who replaced Ruben Amorim in January after the former Sporting Lisbon boss' sacking. As it stands, Fernandes will remain at Old Trafford, with the Premier League season set to commence this weekend. The Red Devils travel to newly-promoted Hull City, and Fernandes is back in action after his World Cup campaign with Portugal, where they reached the last 16.
