James Penrice Outshines Tuur Rommens, Alan Hutton Claims
Penrice Better Than Rommens, Says Hutton

James Penrice has already shown he is better than Tuur Rommens, according to former Rangers full-back Alan Hutton, who was impressed by Penrice's scoring debut against St Mirren in the Premier Sports Cup.

Debut Heroics

The former Hearts defender joined Rangers on loan from AEK Athens on Saturday, with an option to make the deal permanent. Manager Derek McInnes handed him an immediate start for the last-16 clash at home to St Mirren, where Penrice delivered a man-of-the-match display and scored in the 5-1 victory.

Rommens' Injury and Form

With Rommens sidelined for six weeks due to a groin injury, Penrice is set for extended game time until the end of September. Although Penrice was expected to serve as backup to the Belgian, Rommens' inconsistent form before his injury, combined with Penrice's strong start, has led many to suggest he may struggle to reclaim his place.

Hutton's Verdict

Hutton, speaking on the Scottish Football Social Club, said: "I think he looks to have more quality. I know I've went early. I know it's only one game. But I've always liked him. I thought they should have gone and got him last year, and they didn't. To be thrown in after one training session, not knowing anybody or whatever, and to play like that on your debut was great. Listen, he's now set the bar high, so he's going to need to stay there. But if he does and keeps on putting in performances like that...quality player."

The performance has raised questions about Rommens' future in the starting lineup once he returns from injury, with Penrice's early impact setting a high standard at Ibrox.
