Matheus Cunha has issued a heartfelt farewell to Wolverhampton Wanderers and their supporters as he prepares to complete a summer transfer to Manchester United. The Brazilian forward, who has been a key figure at Molineux, signed a new contract earlier this year that included a release clause, now set to be triggered.
In a social media post, Cunha reflected on what he described as the best individual season of his career, having equalled the Premier League record for most goals by a Brazilian with 15 strikes. He wrote: 'Wolves, what can I say to you? What an incredible season. We didn’t get to where you deserve to be, but we did everything we could to make you proud.' He added that his performances were driven by 'dedication and love' for the club.
The 25-year-old's form has attracted the attention of Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, who sees him as the ideal addition to his attack. Despite United missing out on Champions League qualification, the club are understood to have the finances to pursue the deal, particularly given the need to bolster a frontline that has struggled this season.
Wolves boss Vitor Pereira remained non-committal when asked about Cunha's future, stating: 'I have the same information as you. I don’t know. I just know he’s my player. He’s committed with the team, he’s working with happiness and we will see what happens.' Cunha's move is expected to be finalised once the transfer window opens.
