Manchester United have agreed a £71m deal for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, with the Cameroon international set to become the club's third summer signing after Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon. The third bid, totalling £65m guaranteed plus £6m in add-ons, has been accepted by Brentford, and personal terms are already in place pending a medical.
Mbeumo, 25, had also attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur, but Old Trafford remains his preferred destination. The move is expected to be completed within days, allowing him to join United's pre-season tour of the United States.
However, manager Ruben Amorim faces a familiar struggle as he attempts to offload a group of high-profile players deemed surplus to requirements. Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia have been placed in the so-called 'bomb squad', training separately from the first team while they seek transfers.
The approach has caused internal divisions at the club, with some staff concerned that isolating the players sends the wrong message and could lower their transfer value. Garnacho, who was publicly critical of Amorim after being dropped for the Europa League final, has been linked with Aston Villa, but no concrete offers have materialised.
With the September 1 deadline approaching, United have yet to facilitate a sale for any of the five outcasts, leaving Amorim's squad planning in limbo as the new season draws nearer.
