Inquest: Parents' CPR fails to save 'bubbly' boy, 2, found unresponsive

An inquest has heard how the parents of a two-year-old boy found dead in bed tried to resuscitate him. Sebastian Karl Griffiths, described as "bubbly" and "funny", died on August 3, 2025, at his home in Bute Street, Treorchy.

Found unresponsive in bed

The inquest at South Wales Central Coroners' Court heard Sebastian was well when he went to bed the previous evening. He slept in a bedroom he shared with his siblings.

When his mother checked on him the next morning, she found him unresponsive in his bed. His parents began CPR, and police and paramedics arrived shortly after, continuing resuscitation attempts.

Provisional cause of death

Despite their efforts, Sebastian was declared dead. A pathologist has given a provisional cause of death as unascertained.

Coroner Andrew Morse has adjourned the inquest until a date to be fixed to allow evidence to be gathered. A family friend paid tribute to Sebastian, calling him "bubbly and funny, full of character" after his death.
