Manchester United have dropped into the Premier League relegation zone after Nottingham Forest's 3-1 win over Manchester City on Saturday, a result that left former striker Dimitar Berbatov in disbelief.
United have won just one of their nine league games this season, their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign. Forest's victory saw them leapfrog United, who now sit in the bottom three, above only Crystal Palace and Sunderland.
Berbatov's Reaction
Berbatov, who played at Old Trafford from 2008 to 2012 and won two Premier League titles, said: "I don't believe it, but the way United are playing sometimes they deserve to be there honestly."
He was left with his head in his hands but added with some optimism: "Tomorrow they still have a game."
Struggles Continue
United have not won in the league since August, when they beat Ipswich at home. They have since lost 3-0 to Bournemouth in their last home game. Michael Carrick has kept his job despite mounting pressure, and he will need to beat Aston Villa on Sunday to avoid spending the international break in the relegation zone.
United may take hope from Villa's poor recent record at Old Trafford, having lost on all of their last three visits. United's worst Premier League finish remains 15th in 2024/25, when Ruben Amorim took over midway through the season from Erik ten Hag, losing 18 of their 38 games.
