Manchester United are facing a defensive crisis ahead of their Champions League match against Como on Wednesday, with doubts over Lisandro Martinez and Ayden Heaven, while Leny Yoro is suspended.
Training Absences and Injury Concerns
Martinez and Heaven did not train at Carrington on Tuesday morning, casting doubt over their involvement against Como. Martinez came off at half-time against Leeds with a knock, while Heaven was absent at Elland Road with illness, the same issues that kept the pair out of training.
Luke Shaw was also missing from training after missing United's last two games against Atletico and Leeds. Shaw played the full game as United drew 1-1 with Tottenham but picked up a knock in that match at Old Trafford.
Limited Defensive Options
If Martinez and Heaven are not included in the squad, Michael Carrick will be left with just two senior centre-backs, Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt. However, de Ligt has only just returned to fitness from back surgery and has not played since November 30 last year.
Patrick Dorgu remains a longer-term absentee after pulling out of international duty, meaning Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui could be the only fit senior full-backs in the squad against Como.
Academy Players Step Up
Harry Amass and Jaydan Kamason, full-backs from the academy, trained with the main group on Tuesday, while youngster Dan Armer, a centre-back, also took part.
United will make a late decision on which players will travel to Como, meaning Martinez and Heaven could still travel, but Carrick's defensive options are likely to be depleted for the visit to Italy.
Press Conference Update
The club will not confirm their travelling squad, as United will not announce which players are included for away Champions League games this season. Carrick will give an update at a press conference in Como at 6.30pm UK time, alongside midfielder Andrey Santos.
