Manchester United are set to break tradition by wearing their new home kit for the 2026-27 season in their final two Premier League matches of the current campaign. The Red Devils will debut the shirt against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford in what will be their last home game, before also sporting it in the season finale away to Brighton on May 24.
Champions League Qualification Sparks Change
United secured their place in next season's Champions League with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Liverpool last Sunday. With qualification assured, the club is already looking ahead to the next campaign, and for the first time, they will unveil their new home strip before the current season has concluded.
This move follows a growing trend among top clubs. Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea have worn new kits in their final home games for several years, while Bayern Munich debuted their 2026-27 home shirt in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
Kit Design and Inspiration
The new home shirt, manufactured by Adidas as part of a £900 million deal running until 2035, features a collar and is inspired by United's kits from the 1970s. It includes Adidas' classic three stripes on the sleeves. The away kit is set to be blue with white and red trim, reminiscent of the club's third kit from 1986 to 1988. Leaks suggest the third shirt will be off-white with the devil symbol on the chest.
Managerial Uncertainty
It remains unclear who will lead United out in their new kit. Michael Carrick, who has won 10 of his 13 games in charge, is yet to hold formal talks with the club's hierarchy. Speaking after the Liverpool win, Carrick said: "It's not about what I like or what I do not like. It's not in my control. Everything has gone so well... Let's see what happens next."
