Manchester United have disclosed that it cost £21.4 million to dismiss Erik ten Hag and appoint Ruben Amorim as his successor. The Dutchman was sacked on 28 October, along with his coaching staff René Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, Pieter Morel and Ruud van Nistelrooy. Compensation for these departures totalled £10.4 million.
Bringing in Amorim and his coaching quintet—Carlos Fernandes, Jorge Vital, Adélio Cândido, Emanuel Ferro and Paulo Barreira—from Sporting cost the club £11 million, according to the latest accounts.
Amorim, 39, is United's sixth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in May 2013. His first match in charge ended in a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town on Sunday. On Thursday, he will lead the team in his first home game, a Europa League clash against Bodø/Glimt at Old Trafford.
Amorim said: “It will be special, but it will be more special if we win. So that’s the goal, but it’s a special moment in my life, in our staff’s life, and I hope it will be the beginning of something very beautiful.”
