Man United XI vs Como: Carrick faces selection crisis

Manchester United are missing nine senior players for their Champions League encounter with Como this evening, leaving manager Michael Carrick with a significant selection dilemma for the trip to Italy.

The under-fire boss is without a host of first-team regulars for matchday three of the league phase, with the club still searching for a first win in six matches following a 1-1 draw with Leeds on Sunday.

Defensive reshuffle forced by injuries and suspension

Lisandro Martinez is ruled out after being forced off at half-time in the draw with Leeds due to a thigh injury. The Argentine international is joined on the sidelines by Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw and Ayden Heaven, who all missed the weekend fixture.

Marcus Rashford was named on the bench against Leeds but did not feature, and he also misses out here. The quartet, along with Martinez, were absent from open training on Tuesday morning.

Longer-term absentees include Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu and Manuel Ugarte. Leny Yoro is suspended following his dismissal in the 2-0 defeat by Atletico Madrid, with Noussair Mazraoui coming into the side in his place.

De Ligt returns to central defence

Matthijs de Ligt makes his first start in central defence for nearly a year, partnering Harry Maguire. In midfield, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos are joined by Mason Mount, while Bruno Fernandes operates in a free role alongside Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

The match kicks off at 5.45pm BST at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia and is being shown live on TNT Sports.
