Manchester United return to Premier League action this afternoon as they host Ipswich Town at Old Trafford, hoping to recover from last weekend's 2-0 defeat to Hull City. The pressure is already on manager Michael Carrick to secure a positive result in the opening home match of the campaign.
Mount returns, Amad and De Ligt miss out
United have been lifted by the news that Mason Mount is once again available. He has been sidelined since the pre-season friendly against Paris Saint-Germain with a knock, and Carrick confirmed on Friday that Mount trained with the group this week.
Amad is out after picking up an issue before the Hull game, while Matthijs de Ligt will also miss the match as he recovers from a long-term back injury.
Writers pick their starting line-ups
MEN Sport has asked its United writers to select their teams for the fixture.
Tyrone Marshall believes changes are a must after last week. He would start Lisandro Martinez, who should be fit enough, alongside Harry Maguire, noting their strong partnership under Carrick last season. He would also bring Diogo Dalot in for Noussair Mazraoui at right-back.
Marshall feels the partnership between Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans has not clicked yet and, with Mount back fit, would return to Santos and Mount, who had an excellent understanding in pre-season. He is not sure Benjamin Sesko is fit enough to start, so Bryan Mbeumo would play as the No.9 ahead of Matheus Cunha, with the Brazilian returning to the left and Marcus Rashford starting on the right to add goal threat.
Jack Flintham would replace Ayden Heaven, who was caught out for the opener last weekend, and is tempted to start Leny Yoro alongside Maguire because Martinez was so far off the pace the last time he played. He would also recall Mount to play alongside Santos, the only midfield partnership that has clicked so far.
In attack, Flintham would risk Sesko, the only focal point United have, even if he can only play 45 minutes. That would allow Mbeumo to play on the right and Rashford to start on the left in place of Patrick Dorgu.
