Man United predicted XI vs Leeds: Martinez call, Mainoo doubt

Manchester United travel to Leeds this afternoon in need of three points to end a difficult run of form. The Reds were beaten by Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night, though there were some encouraging signs before Lisandro Martinez's comments shifted the narrative and put United back under the spotlight.

Martinez available and likely to start

In his pre-match press conference, Michael Carrick said Martinez was available for selection and, given the lack of options in defence, he will probably retain his place. Diogo Dalot was off the pace for both goals in midweek and could be dropped again, with Leny Yoro pushed to right-back.

With Yoro returning to the full-back position, Harry Maguire could be recalled. The experienced defender is no stranger to these games and could be an asset. Ayden Heaven may keep his spot at left-back, though he will likely drop out if Luke Shaw is deemed fit enough to start.

Midfield and attack decisions

Carlos Baleba impressed on his full debut for United and must start against Leeds. In an ideal world, Kobbie Mainoo would partner him, but there are question marks over his fitness. It would be a risk to start Mainoo in such a physical contest if he is not fully fit, so Andrey Santos is the favourite to play alongside Baleba.

Bruno Fernandes is in need of a rest, that's clear, but Carrick won't do it at Elland Road. Youri Tielemans did well in attacking midfield in midweek, with Fernandes pushed to the right, and United could stick with that selection.

Marcus Rashford can complete the attacking midfield three behind Bryan Mbeumo as the lone striker. Benjamin Sesko's absence could be lengthy, so the forward may have to adapt to this role for the foreseeable future.
