Manchester United welcome Ipswich Town to Old Trafford this afternoon in the Premier League, with Michael Carrick under pressure to secure the first win of the season. United were beaten by newly promoted Hull City last weekend despite being heavy favourites.
Ipswich arrive in high spirits
Gary O'Neil's side head to Old Trafford on the back of two straight victories. They beat Sunderland on the opening day of the campaign and followed that up with a Carabao Cup win over Leicester City.
Carrick is aware of the need to return to winning ways quickly, with early-season judgements already being formed about teams.
Two defensive changes expected
Senne Lammens is set to keep his place in goal after impressing against Hull. The Belgium international made several saves to prevent further embarrassment for United.
Two changes could be made in front of him. Noussair Mazraoui faded as the game progressed last weekend and could make way for Diogo Dalot. Ayden Heaven was at fault for Oli McBurnie's opener and may be replaced by Leny Yoro at centre-back.
Mount return and reshaped attack
Mason Mount has returned to full training this week and could start, with a reunion alongside Andrey Santos in midfield a possibility. The pair impressed together during pre-season before Mount's injury.
United's attack was blunt at Hull, and Carrick is weighing up his options. Marcus Rashford offers more than Patrick Dorgu and could move to the right flank, allowing Matheus Cunha to operate on the left. Rashford is more familiar with the right-wing role than Cunha, which may secure his place in the side.
Bryan Mbeumo would ordinarily fill that role, but with Amad injured and Benjamin Sesko not fully up to speed, Carrick could be forced to deploy the former Brentford man as the central striker. Rashford, Cunha and Mbeumo are expected to be fluid across the top of the pitch, though Cunha's display as the lone forward last weekend was poor and Mbeumo may be better suited to that position.
