Manchester United could include Marcus Rashford in a deal to sign Roma midfielder Manu Kone, according to Italian reports. The Serie A side values the Frenchman at £51 million, a fee that neither United nor Al Ahli have been willing to meet so far.
Swap deal considered
Gazzetta dello Sport claim that United could use Rashford to reduce the transfer fee, as Roma are in need of a left-sided attacker. However, the England international's salary of £325,000 per week would prove problematic for the Italians, meaning a loan would likely be required with United covering a significant portion of his wages. United have previously been reluctant to sanction anything but a permanent move for Rashford, following his loan to Barcelona.
Rashford's future uncertain
Rashford has not played for United since December 2024, though he has two years remaining on his contract. A clause allowing him to leave for £40m to any club except Liverpool or Manchester City has lapsed. Barcelona refused to sign him permanently despite holding an option for £26m, instead signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. No club has matched United's valuation of Rashford, and he reportedly turned down a move to Turkey. As it stands, he is set to return to Old Trafford.
Carrick's stance
Manager Michael Carrick has left the door open for Rashford to stay. "Whoever's here, I want to work with, and help them improve," Carrick said. "At the moment, it's this squad of players. There's obviously players on loan, and whatever happens with that later on will happen. But certainly, as a coach, and leader of a squad, we want to get the best out of everyone."
