Manchester United's woes deepened with a defeat to Como in the Champions League, extending their winless run to seven games across all competitions and increasing pressure on head coach Michael Carrick. The team travelled to Italy without several senior players, including Leny Yoro, who was suspended after a red card in the 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid.
Martinez and Rashford updates
Lisandro Martinez played the first half of the 1-1 draw with Leeds but was replaced at the break by Noussair Mazraoui after picking up a knock. Carrick confirmed: "He felt his thigh a little bit." The boss added on Tuesday that the injury was "not that bad," suggesting a possible return against Bournemouth on Sunday October 25.
Marcus Rashford missed the Como match due to a hip issue. "Marcus is still feeling a hip issue that we're trying to overcome," Carrick revealed. Rashford was an unused substitute against Leeds, and his return date remains unknown.
Mainoo, Shaw, and others sidelined
Kobbie Mainoo has missed the last three games after playing 90 minutes against Tottenham. Carrick said before the Como loss that Mainoo would be out for another "10 days or so," putting him in a race to be fit for the Chelsea match on Saturday October 31. Luke Shaw's absence has caused a reshuffle at left-back, with Ayden Heaven, Diogo Dalot, and Mazraoui filling in. Heaven's absence is due to illness, and he could return against Bournemouth.
Patrick Dorgu sustained a hamstring injury while playing for Denmark against Wales and faces a prolonged spell on the sidelines. Carrick said: "It looks like he'll be out for a number of weeks," with a potential November return. Benjamin Sesko has suffered a fresh flare-up of a shin injury. "Ben's kind of still undergoing a couple of checks before we update on timelines," Carrick said. Manuel Ugarte, who injured a ligament while playing for Uruguay, is not expected to return until 2027 and has been working on rehabilitation at Carrington.
