Man United: Carrick handed triple fitness boost as trio return

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has received a welcome triple fitness boost ahead of the pre-season fixture against Leeds, with Matheus Cunha, Kobbie Mainoo, and Senne Lammens all returning to the squad.

The trio rejoined their team-mates at the pre-season training camp in the Republic of Ireland on Sunday. Cunha and Lammens have recovered from minor non-related illnesses that kept them out of Saturday's 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg.

Mainoo's return after extended break

Mainoo was granted an extended break following his involvement with England at the World Cup, where the Three Lions finished third. Having not played a single minute at the tournament, he was ruled out of the bronze final win over France through injury. However, he appears to have made a full recovery and is ready to begin his pre-season.

Rashford joins squad

Marcus Rashford has also linked up with the squad for the training camp. Carrick revealed his plans for the winger, who has not played a competitive match for the club since December 2024.

“I've played with him. I played in the game he made his debut, so we have a history,” Carrick said. “We have got a full squad this week in Dublin. We fly straight there and have a few days where we have the whole group back together. Marcus is part of that, and Kobbie and Lisandro. We look forward to seeing them.”

New arrivals confirmed

Manchester United have also confirmed the arrivals of Matthijs de Ligt, Benjamin Sesko, and JJ Gabriel in Ireland, along with summer signings Karl Darlow and highly-rated winger Tynan Thompson. De Ligt is continuing his recovery from back surgery, while Sesko and Darlow are on track to be available for the start of the new campaign.
