Manchester City have been found guilty on all 114 charges relating to breaches of financial regulations between 2009/10 and 2017/18, and a second investigation has now been confirmed. The club artificially inflated revenue by more than £900million through the use of supposed 'sham' sponsorship deals, according to the verdict announced last month.
City's Appeal and Denial
City continue to insist they are innocent and launched an appeal against the verdict on October 1. They also maintain there is a "comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence" that exonerates them, but this is yet to be communicated to the public.
In the midst of the saga, the legitimacy of their achievements over the last 20 years has been brought into question.
Guardiola's Legacy Under Scrutiny
One of Pep Guardiola's former players has recently questioned his legacy at the club, given the fact many of his achievements took place between 2009/10 and 2017-18. Guardiola recently visited Manchester City's Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
The football world continues to react to the announcement, with the appeal process and the newly confirmed second investigation set to shape the next phase of the ongoing dispute.
