Manchester City host AEK Athens at the Etihad Stadium tonight, aiming for their second win in this season's Champions League. Last week, the Blues lost 4-2 to Paris Saint-Germain but recovered with a 3-2 Premier League victory over Ipswich Town.
That win secured City's seventh consecutive league triumph, but it came at a cost, with five players picking up problems. Erling Haaland, Antoine Semenyo, Matheus Nunes, Nico O'Reilly and Mateo Kovacic all need assessment ahead of this week's matches.
Haaland and Semenyo fitness updates
Haaland hobbled off with a foot injury as Saturday's match ended. Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Enzo Maresca said: "[Erling] can be available. We will see. We have a session now. We have some doubts after Saturday's game. He was quite good yesterday, better."
When asked if Haaland might need replacing in midweek, Maresca reiterated that the striker should be fine to feature if needed. However, Haaland did not appear in the open section of Monday afternoon's training session. His potential return date remains unknown.
Semenyo, who was seen talking with Maresca at full time on Saturday, will be out for an extended period. "The only one that will be out for probably eight weeks is Antoine," Maresca said. "In the first moment we expect an even worse injury so we were more worried but after the scan we are less worried. It could be eight weeks."
Nunes, O'Reilly and Kovacic concerns
Nunes appeared to hold his groin during the second half against Ipswich and was forced off. Maresca said of the remaining injured players: "The rest are, more or less, okay." Nunes was not spotted with his teammates in training.
O'Reilly tweaked the back injury that has troubled him this season, and the full-back did not feature in training at the Etihad Campus. Kovacic went to ground at the start of the second half on Saturday, and Maresca took no risks, with the midfielder taking a seat on the bench instead of going down the tunnel. He did not complete training on Monday, making him a doubt for the AEK Athens match.
