Manchester City recorded a record 10-1 victory over Exeter City in the FA Cup, with Antoine Semenyo scoring on his debut. The win, played at St James Park, saw Pep Guardiola's side dominate from start to finish, despite the manager serving a touchline ban.
Semenyo, a £62.5 million signing from Bournemouth, opened his account after 52 minutes, finishing a pass from Rayan Cherki. The winger was later substituted to a standing ovation, with Guardiola watching approvingly from the stands. Other scorers included Tijjani Reijnders, Nico O'Reilly, debutant Ryan McAidoo, and Rico Lewis, who scored twice.
Exeter, 14th in League One, scored a consolation through 19-year-old substitute George Birch. However, they were overwhelmed by City's quality, with assistant manager Pep Lijnders praising Semenyo's adaptation. 'He brings something to the front line, what we really need,' Lijnders said.
City now turn their attention to Tuesday's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at Newcastle United. Lijnders confirmed the team's ambitions to reach finals in all competitions, adding that Guardiola's instructions were relayed from his vantage point.
The result marks City's biggest FA Cup win under Guardiola, as they continue their pursuit of silverware in 2026.
