Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Gardner Minshew has made a full recovery from a bone bruise to his knee, just weeks after initial fears that he had torn his ACL. The 29-year-old, who stepped in as a replacement for the injured Patrick Mahomes, is now expected to be fully fit for free agency.
Minshew went down with a knee injury late in the season, leading to concerns that he had suffered a serious ACL tear. However, further tests revealed only a bone bruise, which did not require surgery. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Minshew has already returned to full strength.
The quarterback's contract is set to expire this offseason, and he is now expected to hit the open market. He joins a long list of free-agent passers, including Daniel Jones, Russell Wilson, Marcus Mariota, and Aaron Rodgers, though Rodgers' retirement plans remain uncertain.
Given Mahomes' torn Achilles tendon and his uncertain recovery timeline, it is possible that the Chiefs may look to bring Minshew back into the fold. Minshew initially replaced Mahomes after the star quarterback went down in mid-December.
