The Chelsea winger created seven chances across the two Nations League matches and provided an assist for Ollie Watkins' opener in Athens. However, his place in Thomas Tuchel's first squad in March remains uncertain, with the new head coach yet to attend any of the autumn fixtures.
Madueke's opportunism has been a hallmark of his career, from leaving Tottenham for PSV at 16 to seizing his Chelsea chance with a hat-trick at Wolves in August. Yet his club form has dipped since then, with only one goal and no assists in nine Premier League starts. Calls for him to be dropped grew after he was substituted against Arsenal, allowing Pedro Neto to score a late equalizer.
The 22-year-old must now hold off competition from Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka, and Phil Foden for an England spot, while maintaining his place in Chelsea's starting XI. Saka, in particular, sets the standard with consistent goals and assists for Arsenal and England. Madueke's raw talent is evident, but his development must accelerate to challenge the established order.
With Tuchel's brief to win quickly, the German may not have time to nurture young players. Madueke's international break performances may buy him time, but he must improve his output for Chelsea to remain in contention for both club and country.
