Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has declared that the club must set their sights on winning the Premier League next season, acknowledging that their recent performances have fallen short of expectations.
Shaw, who has been a key figure for United, admitted that the team's inconsistency this season has been unacceptable. "We know we haven't been good enough," he said. "But next season, there are no excuses—we have to be in the title race."
Pressure Mounts on Ten Hag
Manager Erik ten Hag has faced scrutiny following a turbulent campaign, with United struggling to secure a top-four finish. Shaw's comments highlight the growing pressure on the Dutchman to deliver immediate success.
"The standards at this club are incredibly high," Shaw added. "Fans expect trophies, and so do we. Competing for the title is the bare minimum."
Summer Reinforcements Needed
United are expected to be active in the transfer market, with reinforcements in midfield and attack seen as crucial. Shaw emphasised that new signings must be ready for the challenge. "We need players who can handle the pressure and raise the level," he said.
With rivals Manchester City and Arsenal setting the pace, Shaw knows United must improve drastically. "We can't afford another season like this," he warned.
