Lorraine Kelly opened her ITV daytime programme with a heartfelt reaction to Scotland's victory over Haiti in the World Cup. The Scottish team secured their first World Cup win in 36 years, prompting King Charles to approve a bank holiday for the nation on Monday, June 15.
Lorraine's Emotional Response
Despite the bank holiday, Lorraine was called into work and delivered her verdict on Scotland's 1-0 win against Haiti on Saturday night. John McGinn scored in the 28th minute, placing Scotland at the top of Group C after Brazil and Morocco drew 1-1.
Taking over from Ed Balls and Susanna Reid's Good Morning Britain, Lorraine said: "First up today, Scotland fans celebrate the bank holiday, celebrating that the Tartan Army won their first World Cup in 36 years. Everybody keeps going on about that."
Setting the Alarm for the Match
Speaking to LA correspondent Ross King, Lorraine shared: "Ross, it was a hard watch. I set my alarm for 2am, I got up, I watched it. Oh my goodness, I was screaming at the screens, blow the whistle! It was agony, wasn't it?"
Ross replied: "We like to do it the Scottish way, don't we? I don't get nervous on live TV, theatre, whatever, but oh my goodness me I was nervous! I've still got my Scotland top on, I haven't even taken my top off!"
Lorraine laughed: "That's what we like to see!" as Ross added: "It was amazing we won!"
Celebrations Across the Globe
Ross continued: "My tea went absolutely everywhere. The family in Glasgow were in the bar by 9pm and stayed out till about 4.30am. 30,000 over in Boston as well, the pictures that we're getting from Boston are amazing."
Lorraine also reflected on the national anthem sung before the match: "I'll tell you what, that anthem. I had goosebumps on my goosebumps, that was astonishing, wasn't it? It was absolutely amazing. I'm heading out on Wednesday, heading out there, I'm nervous already. I'm there for the Morocco game, and watching Morocco against Brazil, it's going to be a hard one but we'll be fine, I'm sure we'll be fine."
Upcoming Matches
Morocco will face Scotland on Friday, while England's first match against Croatia is on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Lorraine's daughter Rosie celebrated her hen-do in Marbella this weekend. The 32-year-old, who is marrying Steve White later this year after welcoming their daughter Billie in 2024, shared snaps from her trip on social media, including a video of friends dressed as different Steves. Lorraine commented: "I love this so so so much."
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9.30am on ITV1 and ITVX.
