Former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius and his wife, television presenter Diletta Leotta, have welcomed their second child together. The couple announced the arrival of their son, Leonardo, in a heartwarming Instagram post on Saturday, just days after Karius helped Schalke secure promotion to the Bundesliga.
A Joyous Announcement
Leotta, 34, who presents Italian football coverage on DAZN, shared a photo from her hospital bed featuring herself, Karius, newborn Leonardo, and their two-year-old daughter Aria. The post capped off a remarkable period for the family, blending personal joy with professional triumph.
Karius's Redemption Story
Karius, now 32, is best remembered by English football fans for his disastrous performance in Liverpool's 2018 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid. Two costly errors gifted the Spaniards a 3-1 victory in Kyiv, effectively ending his Liverpool career. He never played for the Anfield club again and was released in 2022.
However, back in Germany with Schalke, Karius has revitalized his career. He played a pivotal role in guiding the club back to the Bundesliga after a three-year absence, earning praise for his resilience and determination.
A Wife's Tribute
Leotta, heavily pregnant with Leonardo, was unable to celebrate Karius's promotion on the pitch, but she penned a heartfelt Instagram post lauding her husband's perseverance. She wrote: 'This sport can be tough, sometimes ruthless. It exposes you, tests you, makes you fall in front of everyone. But if you find the strength to stay, to believe again, sooner or later it brings you back exactly where you deserve to be.'
She added: 'I have seen that strength up close. In the silences, in the difficult moments, on the days when it would have been easier to give up. And today it's not just a victory. It's a revival. It's love for what you do. That's courage. Proud of you.'
How They Met
Karius and Leotta first met in 2022 during a chance encounter at Paris Fashion Week. The goalkeeper walked into a restaurant where Leotta was dining with friends. She recalled to Bild: 'Loris comes in and I said, 'Girls, the man of my life has come in.' That was absolutely amazing.'
