Liverpool's search for Mohamed Salah's replacement has intensified, with Bradley Barcola emerging as the top target. The Reds have reportedly secured a verbal agreement with the 23-year-old, but must negotiate a fee with Paris Saint-Germain, who want £140million.
Barcola Pursuit and Negotiations
Andoni Iraola's side had previously failed with an £85million offer for RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande. Attention then turned to Barcola, who played second fiddle to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at PSG last season. The Frenchman has rejected a contract renewal, and L'Equipe reports that the two clubs are in talks over a possible deal.
Barcola, predominantly a left-winger, has played 37 times on the right flank, scoring seven goals and providing 15 assists. Should Liverpool land him, they are not expected to pursue another wide player.
Isak Leads the Line
With Hugo Ekitike injured, Alexander Isak will lead the attack. The Swede endured a disappointing maiden season with only four goals in 22 appearances, but after featuring and scoring at the World Cup, he is expected to show the form that convinced Liverpool to pay £125million for him last year.
The left-wing berth will be contested by Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha, and Victor Munoz. Gakpo has experience but is considered less suited to Iraola's high-pressing system. Ngumoha, 17, may be managed carefully, while Munoz, a £34million summer arrival from Spain's World Cup-winning squad, could establish himself as a regular.
Attacking Depth and Expectations
Both young wingers are expected to contribute goals, but the bulk of the scoring burden rests with Isak. His finishing and ability to combine with Florian Wirtz give Liverpool a distinctive presence up front. Should Iraola assemble his ideal frontline, the rest of the league will be put on notice.
