Liverpool XI vs Palace: Szoboszlai starts, Gravenberch out

Dominik Szoboszlai returns to Liverpool's starting lineup against Crystal Palace today, with the Hungarian international replacing Trey Nyoni in midfield.

Ryan Gravenberch remains sidelined for the trip to Selhurst Park. The Dutchman, who was dropped for last weekend's 1-0 home defeat by Arsenal, missed the Champions League loss against Fenerbahce due to a heel injury that prevented him from travelling to Istanbul.

Gravenberch fitness doubt

Gravenberch's availability for the weekend had remained uncertain, with head coach Andoni Iraola revealing the midfielder was in a race against the clock to prove his fitness ahead of the match.

“The only doubt we will have is Ryan,” Iraola said at Friday's pre-match press conference. “The others will be the same as we have been.”

“The Ryan Gravenberch thing is a day-to-day thing, it's a matter of pain. Let's see if he can deal with the pain and he can help us.”

Team changes and key players

With Gravenberch unavailable, the temptation to use Szoboszlai deeper and play Florian Wirtz in the No10 role has proven too much for Iraola.

Alisson Becker starts against Palace despite scrutiny over his performance after the defeat by Fenerbahce, following on from his mistake against Arsenal. The Brazilian, who has not been called up by Carlo Ancelotti for international duty, keeps his place, with Milos Kerkez and Ronald Araujo restored to the full-back positions after being named on the bench in Istanbul.

Alexander Isak starts at Selhurst Park after his impressive scoring streak ended against Arsenal. The Swede bagged a seventh goal in 13 appearances with his maiden Champions League strike of the season against Fenerbahce, coming off the bench to score.

Bradley Barcola is restored to a more familiar wing role after his experiment up top, with Dutchman Cody Gakpo reintroduced on the other flank.
