Liverpool concluded their pre-season tour of Asia with a 3-1 victory over Yokohama FM at the Nissan Stadium on Wednesday. The Premier League champions fell behind to a first-half goal from Asahi Uenaka but responded strongly after the break.
Florian Wirtz equalised with his first goal for the club, finishing confidently after a driving run from Curtis Jones. The goal was Wirtz's last touch before being substituted as part of a flurry of changes just past the hour mark.
Teenagers Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha then secured the win for Arne Slot's side. Nyoni scored acrobatically from Jeremie Frimpong's cross, while 16-year-old Ngumoha capped a superb cameo with a sumptuous strike into the bottom corner late on.
Liverpool started brightly, hitting the post through Cody Gakpo, and Hugo Ekitike also went close on his first start. However, Yokohama held firm before taking a shock lead. The Reds' substitutes ultimately made the difference, with Frimpong and Ngumoha particularly impressive.
Liverpool return to Anfield next Monday for a double header of friendlies against Athletic Club as they continue preparations for the new season.
