Liverpool return to Champions League action tonight as they host Villarreal, but they will be without two players after picking up fresh injuries at the weekend.
Injury blows for Liverpool
The Reds secured a gritty comeback win over Brentford, but the victory came at a cost. Dominik Szoboszlai was rushed back from a hamstring injury to feature, but did not last long before reaggravating the issue, which forced him off.
The same fate befell half-time substitute Jeremie Frimpong, who went down with a muscle problem less than ten minutes after his introduction. He is now not expected back until after the November international break, though there is slightly more optimism around Szoboszlai.
“It is not a new injury. I think it was in the same place it was probably the past week,” said Andoni Iraola of Szoboszlai. “He hasn’t worsened the injury but probably we have to be a little bit more patient until he recovers fully.”
Champions League form
Liverpool sit sixth in the Champions League table, having won both of their games so far. They put six past Austria’s LASK last time out and dispatched Atletico Madrid before that.
