Thierry Henry has lavished praise on Michael Olise after the Bayern Munich winger starred in a 2-1 Champions League victory over Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. The 24-year-old, who joined Bayern from Crystal Palace for £50million last summer, set up Harry Kane's winner and drew comparisons to Mohamed Salah as Liverpool consider a summer move.
Henry, speaking on CBS Sports, described Olise as a 'special player' with a unique vision. 'He sees and thinks about the game differently,' the Frenchman said. 'When he gets the ball, he sees things that few others can. He perceives the game with his brain more than his eyes.'
The i Paper reported last month that Liverpool hold a keen interest in Olise as a long-term successor to Salah, who is expected to leave Anfield at the end of his contract. The Reds are reportedly weighing up signing both an established star and an up-and-coming talent to fill the void. However, doubts persist over whether Olise would leave Bayern, who are thriving under Vincent Kompany.
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard admitted Olise would be his ideal replacement for Salah, but conceded he may be unattainable. 'The concern if you're trying to replace Salah like-for-like, there's very few out there,' Gerrard told talkSPORT. 'Olise would be one but I don't think he'd be available.' Gerrard noted Liverpool's strong track record of replacing top players with different types of options, citing the signing of Luis Diaz after Sadio Mane's departure.
